Q. Is the paint permanent

A. Yes. Porcelain paints are powdered minerals. They are mixed with oil to hold the powder in place, then fired to 800°C. They are dishwasher proof.

Q. Do I need to own a kiln

A. No. Although many painters do eventually buy their own kiln, most students have their teacher fire their work.

Q. Will a teacher allow me to try different techniques

A. APAT members usually love to encourage their students to experiment with many different styles and techniques. Although it's a good idea to learn the basics before experimenting with unknowns.

Q. How much will my basic start up materials cost

A. Not all teachers have the same approach, and therefore once you have decided the type of work you want to do, materials can be chosen, and costed in discussion with your selected tutor. Paints last for many years, good quality brushes will also last a very long time

A. Supplies are readily available in Australia. Your teacher will have a full list of suppliers.
